Photoshop, direct mail, and stakeholders

Photoshop is an essential tool for anyone in design, whether you're just starting or have some experience. One of the key things to remember is that design projects usually involve multiple stakeholders. In my recent Photoshop projects, I realized how important it is to understand each stakeholder’s needs. For example, my first stakeholder lets say a client looking for a promotional graphic helped define the requirements for the second stakeholder, which in my case was the audience. The client’s preferences shaped how I approached creating something that would resonate with the target demographic, aligning the message with their expectations and needs.

Throughout the drafting and review stages, designs tend to evolve a lot. My initial drafts were often very different from the final result because of the feedback I received. Sometimes it’s about refining the visual language, like adjusting colors or typography to better suit the stakeholders’ needs. Other times, it’s about making functional changes, like reworking a layout for better usability. These changes are typically influenced by both the stakeholder feedback and my own evolving understanding of the project’s goals.

When it comes to advice for working in Photoshop, my number one tip is to be patient. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of tools and options available, but take the time to learn the basics like layers, masks, and blending modes and gradually build from there. Another tip is to make use of keyboard shortcuts; they save a ton of time! Also, don’t be afraid to experiment. One of the best things about Photoshop is that you can always undo or create multiple versions of a design to see what works best. Finally, remember that design isn’t just about making something look good it’s about communicating effectively, so keep your end goals in mind as you.
